Maximize your vacation
If you’re like me, when I go on vacation, I want to truly vacation. Disconnect, relax, and not be saddled to a schedule. Therefore, I’m not one to schedule my trip in its entirety before I depart. Why? Because if I’m traveling to a new place, I want to see what there is to do and not have a cancel and have a fee because I discover something I desire to experience. Let me give you an example: I traveled to Cancun a few weeks ago and booked an all-day boat. It was something I knew I wanted to do, but I also wanted to make sure I had enough days left in my trip to do another one if I so chose. The day was great, windy, but when you’re on a catamaran, wind is great—it allows you to sail. Too windy to go snorkel, but being I’d not booked anything else for the week, I was able to schedule another boat for later in the week—with a discount, because they love repeat customers.
I’ve always found when booking with a concierge ahead of time a pressure that if you don’t book “right now” things will be too busy and you’ll miss out on an opportunity. While I’ve heard that phrase many times, it’s never impacted my ability to do what I want to do. And most importantly, maybe I don’t want to be tied to having to do something tomorrow because today was a long day. Unfortunately, when you pre-book, it’s most difficult (if not impossible) to get a refund.
To be clear, if you’re traveling to a destination to go do something specific, I’d encourage you pre-book (making sure weather isn’t going to impact your experience) and do it as early-on in your trip as possible... who knows, you may want to go again.
